Erik Lowman, DO
Double Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine
About
Dr Lowman graduated with a degree in English Literature before going to med school at Nova Southeastern University. He did his residency in Internal Medicine at The University of Florida Jacksonville Campus, where he served as Chief Resident, was awarded with the Deans Research Award and recognized as the Outstanding Senior Resident. He completed his Infectious Disease Fellowship at Rush in Chicago, Illinois and went on to practice in Northwest Chicago for eight years at a busy practice, developing expertise in treating complex infections, such as prosthetic device infections, transplant medicine, and infections in international travelers, and was recognized for Top Performance in Achieving Exceptional Clinical Integration Outcomes.
In 2016, he returned to Miami, joining one of the largest HIV clinics in the country, where he practiced for three years—until the COVID pandemic hit. At which point, he dedicated himself to dealing with the pandemic, treating hospitalized patients, advising hospitals, and making reports to the CDC.
With Lowman Med, he hopes to bring all his experiences and expertise into an outpatient clinic, providing competent, compassionate care.
Philosophy
"Our role as physicians is chiefly to help people live meaningful and enjoyable lives for as long as they can. Often, that means helping relieve an impediment to their health. Sometimes it means seeing things down the path before they realize they are there.
I sometimes think of doctors to people who are ill as being a bit like a sherpa. The first task is figuring out where they are—what we would call making a diagnosis. Then we learn where they want to be-what they would envision for their health. Finally, we map a plan of care to get them there.
It's important to me to listen to my patients. First, I need to understand what is important to them about their health. Second, I want to make sure they understand and agree with the plan of care I am recommending (or at least be willing to give it a try)—if they don’t, we need to come up with a different plan.
In developing a plan, I take the maxim, 'First Do No Harm,' seriously. I do not just throw medications at someone or order unnecessary tests. When contemplating different options for a plan, I often find myself thinking, “if this were a beloved member of my family, what would I want their doctor to do?”
Testimonials
He spends a significant amount of time with me and is very thorough in history and physical. I also had some very sensitive medical issues and feel very comfortable discussing this with him.

Not a bad doctor, I do think when a patient is requesting an MRI or CT scan to see if anything is underneath the layers of skin, he only did blood tests, But still he's a good Doctor or a great Doctor.

I’ve been to so many doctors. The wait was a little long, but trust me the wait is worth it. He pays attention to everything you say and really cares about treating the patient. Never experienced a doctor as caring and intelligent.

Dr. Lowman is the most attentive doctor I've ever had. He takes the time to go over everything. He is non-judgmental. What amazes me is that he's always on time with his appointments, though he spends a considerable amount of time with me. I guess he doesn't overbook like so many others do…

… I felt like he really had me as his number one interest. He listened carefully to what I had to say, what my concerns were. He addressed each and every one with all possibilities. With my doctors, I've gotten the impression that the won't tell you what they're thinking. Not so with Dr. Lowman. He spent approx. 45 minutes dealing with all my concerns. I'm happy to have such an attentive doctor in such a nice office. Feeling blessed!
